HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998 02 09 Regular Item F COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM F REGULAR X CONSENT INFORMATIONAL February 9. 1998 Meeting MGR ~ \;' )Iv\ /DEPT Authorization REQUEST: City Manager requesting the Commission to review CALNO information regarding the proposed Government Public Education Television Program, and to determine if it desires to enter into an inter-local agreement to study the feasibility of the program and to implement the program at a later date if costs are acceptable, PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to provide information on the proposed Government Public Education Television Program, and for the Commission to determine what action, if any, it determines appropriate relative to support for the program. CONSIDERA TIONS: This item is needed for the Commission to decide how it desires to address the program. On October 27, 1997, Commissioner Gennell requested the Commission establish a workshop date to discuss the proposed Government Public Education Cable Television Program. The Commission directed that they be provided information for review from which it could determine if it desired to hold a workshop, a public hearing, or to agenda the item for action. On November 10, 1997, the Commission reviewed the information and directed that they be provided information on the total estimated cost divided by the number of participating entities from which it could determine what appropriate action to take. On November 24, 1997, the Commission reviewed the information and cost estimates and voted not to enter into an inter-local agreement for the program. On January 26, 1998, Commissioner Gennell requested the Commission be provided information for review from which it could determine how it desires to address the program. Oot Out Provision Section "I" ofthe Inter-Local Agreement allows participants to opt out of the program at any time by written notice. Therefore, if the Commission determines the cost are not acceptable it can opt out of the agreement. FUNDING: The amount requested to fund the program will be the total estimate asked divided by the number of participating entities. There are as many as 10 possible participants. A number of conditions have occurred which will result in a possible reduction in previously estimated costs. Review the information and take no action. 2. Review the information and establish a workshop date. 3. Review item and request the item be agended for a future meeting for action. 4.
