HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997 11 10 Regular Item E COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM E REGULAR X CONSENT INFORMATIONAL November 10. 1997 Meeting MGR f{!VI /DEPT Authorization REQUEST: City Manager requesting the City Commission to adopt Resolution No. 832 authorizing the Holiday Schedule for 1998. PURPOSE: The purpose of this Agenda item is for the Commission to establish the Holiday Schedule for 1998. CONSIDERA TIONS: Historically, the Commission has authorized 10 Holiday's. In 1997 the Commission authorized the following days: Wednesday, January 1, 1997 - New Year's Day Friday, March 28, 1997 - Spring Holiday Monday, May 26, 1997 - Memorial Day Friday, July 4, 1997 - Independence Day Monday, September 1, 1997 - Labor Day Thursday, November 27, 1997 - Thanksgiving Day Friday, November 28, 1997 - Day After Thanksgiving Thursday, December 25, 1997 - Christmas Day Friday, December 26, 1997 - Day After Christmas Day Employees Birthday ISSUES: In 1997 the Christmas Holiday falls on Thursday, and the Commission decided to give the employees a long weekend; which eliminated Presidents Day, keeping the 10 paid holidays. New Year's Day, 1998, falls on Thursday and is it the Commissions desire to authorize the day after New Year's Day, Friday off as was authorized the day after Christmas. AL TERNA TIVES: 1) Keep the Holiday Schedule the same as the 1996 schedule, which included Presidents Day and not the day after New Year's 2) Add the day after New Year's to the Holiday Schedule, keeping Presidents Day with a total of 11 paid Holidays (only for 1998) 3) Maintain 10 holidays and substitute the Friday after New Year's for Presidents Day RECOMMENDATION: The Commission authorize one of the three alternative Holiday Schedules. If the Commission is consistent with the action it took last year, the Commission would choose Alternative "3 It. IMPLEMENT A TION SCHEDULE: The Holiday Schedule becomes law upon adoption of the Resolution No. 832 ATTACHMENTS: Three Alternative Holiday Schedule Resolutions No. 832 COMMISSION ACTION: ALTERNATIVE 1 RESOLUTION NO. 832 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA, SUPPLEMENTING THE PERSONNEL POLICY OF THE CITY, ESTABLISHING OFFICIAL HOLIDAYS FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1998. , WHEREAS, the Personnel Policy of the City of Winter Springs, Florida, was established by Ordinance No. 153, and WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 153, it provides that the Personnel Policy of the City may be amended from time to time by adopting a Resolution, and WHEREAS, the City needs to establish Official Holidays for the Calendar Year 1998. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA: SECTION I: That the City of Winter Springs, Florida hereby supplements the Personnel Policy passed pursuant to Ordinance No. 153, of the City by establishing holidays of the City for the calendar year 1998 as follows: Thursday, January 1, 1998 - New Year's Day Friday, January 2, 1998 - Day After New Year's Day Monday, February 16, ]998 - President's Day Friday, April 10, 1998 - Spring Holiday Monday, May 25, 1998 - Memorial Day Friday, July 3, 1998 - Independence Day Monday, September 7, ] 998 - Labor Day Thursday, November 26, 1998 - Thanksgiving Day Friday, November 27, 1998 - Day After Thanksgiving Friday, December 25, ] 998 - Christmas Day Employees Birthday Passed and adopted this _ day of , ]997 CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA PAULP.
