R ~U~riza~O~PT.~ REQUEST: The Information Services Department requests that the City Commission authorize the expenditure of $20,800 to Network Integration to complete the cabling needed between the new Public Safety Building, Fire Station #24, and Public Works. PURPOSE: The purpose of this request is to allow the City Commission to approve the expenditure of $20,800 to Network Integration which will allow the completion of cabling needed between Public Safety Building, Fire Station #24, and Public Works. CONSIDERA TIONS: 1. This project was included in Public Safety Complex Structured Cabling System, bid number 97 -008, as an interbuilding cable bid alternative. 2. Network Integration won the bid for the Public Safety Complex Structured Cabling System and was the low bid for the interbuilding cable bid alternative. October 27, 1997 CONSENT AGENDA ITEM E Page 2 3. This cabling is necessary to complete the phone system for Fire Station #24 and Public Works. It will also provide them with data networking capabilities as well as video conferencing in the future. It eliminates the monthly charge on one dedicated ring-down circuit from Fire Station #24 to Public Safety Building and also eliminates the monthly charges for telephone company central office facilities for Fire Station #24 and Public Works. 4. There will be one fiber cable (8-multimode and 4 single-mode fibers) going from Public Safety to Public Works and one going from Public Safety to Fire Station #24. On the phone side, this is the equivalent of 4 tie lines and 4 essx lines at Fire Station #24, and 3 tie lines and 3 essx lines at Public Works at an approximate monthly cost of $350. On the data side, the two fibers give us the equivalent bandwidth of leasing two T -1 lines from BellSouth at a monthly charge of $1338 each. This would be a total monthly charge of $3026. The payoff for owning our own fiber and 50-pair copper would be 7 months. ISSUES: None at this time. FUNDING: The money for this project is available in the 1997 construction fund. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Commission authorize the expenditure to complete the phone system and enable data communications for Public Safety, Public Works, and Fire Station #24. IMPLEMENTATION: Installation will begin immediately after purchase order is processed and signed by the City Manager.
