Authorization
REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department requests that the City Commission
authorize the Recreation Department to utilize $48,000.00 budgeted in the
1997 fiscal year funds allocated for playground equipment for the
construction of lighted basketball courts at Torcaso Park.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this item to acquire Commission approval to allocate those funds
previously budgeted for playground equipment for the construction of lighted
basketball courts at Torcaso Park.
CONSIDERA nONS:
· Funds have been previously approved and allocated for playground equipment for
Torcaso Park.
· A neighborhood survey indicated that the need for lighted basketball courts was
highly prioritized by the residents that Torcaso Park will serve.
· Test borings have been completed and the site is suitable for basketball courts.
· A comprehensive plan has been completed for the site to insure that the basketball
courts are located properly.
. The Winter Springs Fire Department will supervise the courts if necessary.
FUNDING:
No additional funding required. Estimated cost of the lighted basketball courts is
$48,000.00.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Commission authorize utilization of $48,000.00
previously designated for playground equipment to be used for the
construction of lighted basketball courts at Torcaso Park.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
Advertisement for bids should begin within two weeks.
Opening bids within 30 days after advertisement.
Contract within two weeks of bid opening.
Construction to begin within 60 days.
