PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to advise the City Commission of the intent ofthe Public Works Department to install new City entrance signs that were selected by the Beautification Board of Winter Springs. CONSIDERATIONS: The Beautification Board has been working with the Public Works Department on the design of new city entrance signs at the 1210cations where roads enter the City. Since June, 1996 the BOWS board has been refining the suggested sign submittals from the members and their has been unanimous approval of the final design. The final design is based on the current City logo which appears on all official documents. The sign will be thirty six (36) inches in diameter, mounted on a single three inch diameter anodized aluminum pole. The sign will have 3 colors; white, blue and green, as per ) the attached concept plan. The signs will have silk screened colors on 3M high intensity reflective vinyl with a protective coating which will give the signs a 7 year life expectancy. The cost of these signs, poles and associated hardware will average $230.00 each. The proposed manufacturer is local and also a resident of the city. It is the opinion ofthe BOWS board that the proposed design will enhance the beauty of the city and impress visitors. June 9,1997 Information Agenda E Pagel The intent of this project is to replace the less attractive existing signs which are rectangular and mounted on two gray galvanized channels to the more aesthetic round sign with the single bright aluminum pole. The new sign design is larger in square area than the existing signs by 1 square foot. The new sign meets all the requirements of the Florida Dept. of Transportation - Manual of Uniform Traffic Devices. These signs at the three main corridor entrances are suggested to be temporary until a fmal corridor featured entrance signage plan is implemented. When the main corridor sign plan is complete these signs can be used as inventory for the remaining nine secondary city entrances FUNDING: The Public Works Department has these funds necessary for the purchase of the signs from Public Works Street Signs line code # (4410 - 55250). RECOMMENDA TIONS: None Required IMPLEMENTATION: The signs will be installed within 60 days at the following entrances; East and West S.R. 434, Winter Springs Boulevard, Shetland Avenue, Dyson Drive, Deer Run, Howell Creek Drive, Tuskawilla Road, Fisher Road, Murphy Road, Shepard Road, and S.R. 419.
