Auth REQUEST: City Manager requesting the City Commission to consider contributing to the Seminole Visioning Plan. PURPOSE: The purpose of this request is to help finance the continuation of the Seminole County Visioning process. CONSIDERA nONS: The Seminole County Visioning process was organized to develop a Future Vision of Seminole County and Strategic Plan for accomplishing this vision. The process was initialized in October, 1996 at the Seminole Vision Conference with the completion of a Vision Statement for the County. The Seminole County Chamber is attempting to continue the Strategic Planning Process through contributions from the private sector, business and government. The Chamber is requesting $8,000 from Winter Springs and other governmental jurisdictions as follows: Requested Seminole County Altamonte Springs Casselberry Oviedo Sanford Lake Mary Longwood Winter Springs $8,000 8,000 8,000 8,000 8,000 8,000 8,000 Committed $17,000 12,000 under consideration no action taken under consideration 3,500 1,000 Page 1 t I have been selected to co-chair the City County Manager Committee. FUNDING: The Chamber has requested $8,000. I am recommending $3,500. Funding for what ever amount you decide to contribute would come from General Fund Reserves. RECOMMENDATION: City Manager recommends the Commission to consider making a contribution to Seminole Vision in an amount $3,500 or any other amount the Commission deems appropriate. IMPLEMENTATION: It is envisioned that the Strategies Planning Process will be completed in approximately months. The Seminole Vision momentum remains strong. In October 1996, a divergent group of 100 Community Stakeholders convened at the first Seminole Vision conference, This initiative was designed to strengthen our Community, shape our future, and establish a norm of innovation, dialogue, and collaborative planning. Since that time, . . . A comprehensive conference report has been published and distributed, . A new ~xecutive Board of strong Community leaders has been formed (attached) that has committed to carry the process forward. . The draft vision statement from the October conference has been put into a final form: The Seminole Vision . . . an innovative and diverse community dedicated to excellence, prosperity, and quality of life for all. . The Board has adopted an aggressive time line which includes '.I Strategic Planning Retreat for the Executive Board .I Strategic Planning Retreats for each of the Stateholder Groups .I . Regular meetings/work sessions for. the Board and all Stateholder Groups .I Annual Seminole Vision conference (November) The Executive Board also has adopted a budget and entrusted the Greater Seminole County Chamber Of Commerce to continue to administer the process. Inner Change Facilitators has been retained to ,design and facilitate a process that will ensure that the goals set will be realized. . The 1997 Seminole Vision process is funded by a partnership of business and government. As of this date; Florida Power Corporntion, Barnett Bank, Pizzuti, Glatting \(ercher Jackson Anglin Lopez Rinehart, and IifeFleet Adantic are our business investors. On behalf of The Seminole Vision, The Chamber respectfully requests the City' of Winter Spriings to invest $8,000 in this Community-Building process. Questions are welcome.
