PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to keep the City Commission informed as to the completion of the emergency stormwater pipe replacement at 444/446 Alderwood Court as authorized at the May 13, 1996 City Commission meeting. CONSIDERATIONS: The City Commission authorized emergency repairs to the stormwater piping system at 444/446 Alderwood Court at the May 13, 1996 City Commission at a cost of up to $40,000. The City negotiated a change order with the low bidder of Bid #96-006, Prime Construction Group Inc., for $39,843.00 to perform the emergency repairs. The work was completed to our satisfaction on August 12, 1996 at a cost of$36,843.00. We were able to lower the change order price by the City supplying the 12" replacement pipe at no cost by reusing the 12" PVC water and/or reclaimed water mains that the S.R 434 contractor is replacing that are only 3 years old. The easement issue was resolved by the owner of 446 Alderwood Court providing us a temporary construction easement to install the pipe in the permanent easement. The resident at 444 Alderwood Court is still claiming that his pool deck was damaged from subsidence created by the stormwater pipe. We believe this is not a valid claim due to the fact that the pool is twenty feet from the pipe and also a large barbeque pit and slab is September 9, 1996 Informational Agenda Item A Page-2.... between the pool and stormwater pipe which exhibits no sign of settling. However, the resident was advised that he could file a claim against the City and the matter would be turned over to our insurance carner. IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE: The replacement of the storm water pipe, driveways, sidewalks and restoration was completed in three weeks and accepted by the City on August 12, 1996.
