REQUEST: Public Works Department/Stormwater Division Providing an Update of the
Proposed Emergency Stormwater Piping Replacement at 444/446 A1derwood
Court.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to keep the City Commission informed as to the
progress of the emergency stormwater pipe replacement at 444/446 Alderwood
Court as authorized at the May 13, 1996 City Commission meeting.
CONSIDERATIONS:
The City Commission authorized emergency repairs to the stormwater piping
system at 444/446 Alderwood Court at the May 13, 1996 City Commission at a cost of up
to $40,000. The City currently had a contract with the low bidder of Bid #96-006, Prime
Construction Group Inc., for the Shore Road Culvert Replacement and stormwater piping
installation at the Grove Counseling Center on Old Sanford Oviedo. A change order to
the original contract was negotiated with Prime Construction Group for $39,843.00 to
perform the emergency repairs. The original estimate was approximately $43,500 but we
were able to lower the contract price by the City supplying the pipe material and
concessions by the contractor. We may be able to provide the 12" replacement pipe at no
cost by reusing the 12" PVC water or reclaimed water mains that the S.R 434 contractor
is replacing that are only 3 years old.
As stated at the City Commission meeting, we need a 15' drainage easement from
both resident to perform the necessary work. We have located a 15' drainage easement

for 444 Alderwood Court dedicated in 1982 to apparently perform repairs. The necessary
easement was forwarded to 446 Alderwood Court for execution on May 22, 1996.
The scope of work for the repairs is mobilization, swveying, wellpoint dewatering,
installation of240 feet of 12" pipe, headwall installation, manhole installation, grouting
existing pipe, and concrete and asphalt restoration. Weare tentatively scheduled to
commence construction on June 24, 1996 provided the necessary easement has been
executed and recorded.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
The replacement of the stormwater pipe is scheduled to commence on June 24,
1996 and will take approximately three weeks. There will be no disruption of traffic other
than the driveways of the two affected residents. Construction traffic will approach the
site from Alderwood Street via Murphy Road.
