The vehicle is a 1993 Mazda MPV van vin# JM3L V5223P0509611. PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to inform the commission on the possibility of obtaining a 1993 Mazda MPV van as a replacement vehicle for Community Relations through the D.E.A. Federal Forfeiture Program. CONSIDERATIONS: On February 21, 1996 four Winter Springs Officers assisted the D.E.A. with a search warrant in which the D.E.A. seized two houses, and three vehicles in Winter Springs. Our officers spent approximately four hours each assisting with the warrant. The D.E.A. has offered one of the vehicles to our agency for our use. By accepting this vehicle we can replace our community relations vehicle which is due for replacement and save several thousand dollars. The cost will be minimal to the City of Winter Springs for maintenance of this vehicle compared to present vehicle. ISSUE ANALYSIS: The Community R~lations vehicle is presently a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria with over 106,438 miles. The Mazd.a van is 1993 with low mileage, and would have a -serviceability of four to five years. 1 FUNDING: The department would spend approximately $2500.00 instead of approximately $18000.00 to replace the vehicle currently in service. The moneys would come from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund line code number 103-56410.
