PRO C LAM A T ION CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA WHEREAS, love, respect and admiration for the aged have always been basic philosophical principles of Western civilization; and WHEREAS, the senior citizens of the State of Florida have for many years contributed to our moral, economic and social well- being; and WHEREAS, Florida, as a state, feels a deep sense of appreciation for the guidance and leadership provided by its senior citizens; and WHEREAS, the senior citizens have worked long and hard to build our country, to realize their dreams, to give their children a better world in which to live; and WHEREAS, the contributions of our older Americans and their efforts have resulted in the growth and prosperity of our society, at both the state and national level; and WHEREAS, it is a tribute to the ingenuity and initiative of senior citizens that they have organized several great associations to meet the problems of age and change; and WHEREAS, we hold the senior citizens of our society in respect and affection; and WHEREAS, traditionally the Nation has observed Senior Citizens Month during May with the support of state and national communities, organizations and other groups; NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN V. TORCASO, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Winter Springs, Florida, do hereby proclaim May 1984 as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH in Winter Springs, Florida, and do urge all residents of Winter Springs, Florida, to work toward the ultimate goal of making the declining years to the elderly truly golden.
