HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018 11 19 Regular 500 Deputy Mayor NominationCOMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 500 Informational Consent Public Hearings Regular X November 19, 2018 KS ALLL Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: The City Clerk requests that the City Commission consider nominating a Deputy Mayor as stipulated in the Charter of the City of Winter Springs. SYNOPSIS: The Deputy Mayor represents the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, and would serve in this capacity until any future Appointment, and would attend any meetings/events whenever the current Mayor cannot. The Deputy Mayor position is defined under the City's Charter, Section 4.05. Mayor. CONSIDERATIONS: Section 4.05. - Mayor. of the City of Winter Springs' Charter states, "The city commission shall elect from among its members a deputy mayor who shall act as mayor during the absence or disability of the mayor. However, if a vacancy occurs in the position of mayor, the vacancy shall be filled in accordance with section 4.08(c) of this Charter." Current and previous Deputy Mayors: The current Deputy Mayor is Deputy Mayor Geoff Kendrick. Former Deputy Mayor Cade Resnick resigned on June 8, 2018 with his resignation effective June 12, 2018. At the July 9, 2018 City Commission Regular Meeting, Commissioner Geoff Kendrick was Nominated and Confirmed to serve as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of this year/term. On December 11, 2017, Commissioner Cade Resnick was Nominated and Approved to serve as Deputy Mayor. Regular 500 PAGE 1 OF 3 - November 19, 2018 In November 2016, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Meeting of November 21, 2016 and Commissioner Pam Carroll was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. In October 2016, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of October 10, 2016 and Commissioner Joanne M. Krebs was Nominated and Confirmed to serve as Deputy Mayor (until her final Term of Office ended which was in November 2016). In December 2015, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 14, 2015 and Commissioner Jean Hovey was Nominated and Approved to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2014, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 8, 2014, and Commissioner Joanne M. Krebs was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2013, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 9, 2013, and Commissioner Rick Brown was Nominated and Confirmed to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2012, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 10, 2012, and Commissioner Cade Resnick was Nominated and Approved to serve as Deputy Mayor. In December 2011, the Nomination for Deputy Mayor was held at the Regular Meeting of December 12, 2011, and Commissioner Gary Bonner was Nominated and Ratified to serve as Deputy Mayor. Later, during the year 2012, Deputy Mayor Gary Bonner resigned as a member of the City Commission; and, at the July 23, 2012 City Commission Regular Meeting Commissioner Joanne M. Krebs was Nominated and Confirmed to serve as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of that year/term. FISCAL IMPACT: With a new Appointment, new name badges and business cards may need to be ordered, (and could run to approximately $300.00). COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at six (6) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff Regular 500 PAGE 2 OF 3 - November 19, 2018 is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals.
